San Miguel Power Association is constantly thinking of ways to help our members save energy and money. That means making it affordable for members to replace and upgrade existing appliances and other systems with energy efficient ones. We offer a variety of rebates that can cut the cost of new appliances by 10% or more. How do you know what appliances qualify? It's simple - just look for the energy star logo when purchasing new appliances.
For many of your new appliances you'll receive money back from SMPA and Tri-State Generation & Transmission. In addition to energy efficient appliances, rebates are also available for water heaters, heat pumps and motors. SMPA budgets money specifically for energy efficiency rebates. The rebates are available for residential and commercial members.
After you've installed your purchase, simply contact your local SMPA office and ask for an Energy Efficiency Credit Application. You'll receive your application by mail or fax. You can also download your application below. Complete the form and attach a copy of your receipt showing proof of purchase. Return your completed form to SMPA, Attn. Gary Miller, and we'll process your rebate. A check from SMPA for your total rebate will arrive in the mail within 3 to 6 weeks.
In addition to your rebate, energy efficient appliances and other systems will save you in the long run. ENERGY STAR qualified appliances use advanced technologies that require 10-50% less energy and water than standard models. Therefore you'll be using less energy and cutting costs from your energy and utility bills.

LED Tube Lights
First there were street lights, then light bulbs (you know, the kind you screw in to your reading lamps) and now there's tube lights. There's an LED option for practically every type of lighting application these days.
LED tubes lights are available in 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 foot lengths and typically cost between $70 and $80. SMPA will provide a rebate of $35 per bulb for a maximum of 10 bulbs to members who replace fluorescent tube lights with the LED equivalent.
The rebate applies to new construction and retro-fitting projects alike. In the case of a retro-fit there is little work needed. Simply remove the ballast and insert the LED tube just as you would a fluorescent tube.
On average the LED tube light will use almost 40% less electricity than its fluorescent counterpart. For example, a four foot, 40 watt fluorescent tube light can be replaced with a 15 watt LED tube.

| Maximum Rebate | $350 or 10 bulbs |
Sportlites
Sportlites are essentially eight CFL light bulbs in one. One Sportlite fixture is composed of eight, compact fluorescent bulbs and offers the flexibility of illuminating two, four, six or all eight of the bulbs. At is maximum capacity a Sportlite uses 336 watts. In comparison the typical metal halide light uses 460 watts.
Sportlite fixtures are designed to replace metal halide, mercury vapor and high pressure sodium fixtures, as well as HO & VHO strip fluorescents and high wattage incandescent lamps. Typically you'll see Sportlites in gymnasiums, arenas, stadiums and other large open facilities.
Sportlites cost approximately $600 per fixture. SMPA will provide rebate of $100 per fixture for a maximum of 10 fixtures. The rebate applies to new construction and retro-fitting projects.
