How to Apply

Step 1: Determine Your Eligibility

Establish your customer’s eligibility by reviewing the program terms and conditions in the Authorization section below.

Step 2: Complete Forms

Complete and submit the following items:

  • This reservation form
  • A PVWatts report or other documentation stating expected annual kWh output.
If funds are available, the contractor will receive a confirmation letter that rebate funds are reserved for the project. The renewable energy system installation must be complete and final paperwork submitted within 180 days of the date on the reservation letter, or by the last day of the current year, whichever occurs first.

Solar PV Residential

Must be grid tied, inverters listed and approved. Rebate may be adjusted for shade and orientation losses.

Small Wind

Rebate calculated at nameplate capacity at 11 m/s. Must be grid tied and system must be UL listed and approved. Turbines must be certified by the Small Wind Certification Council.

Small Hydro Must be grid tied and system must be UL listed and approved. Additional interconnection requirements may apply. Residential systems limited to maximum $300 rebate. $0.10/watt up to 10kW Up to $1,000

SMPA Renewable Energy Rebate TERMS AND CONDITIONS

 

Rebate Recipient Requirements

  • Rebates are available only to applicants with an active account and membership with SMPA.
  • Residential applicants are defined as residential homeowners and landlords that pay residential utility rates under the residential rate code.
  • Commercial applicants are defined as consumers that pay commercial utility rates and taxes under the commercial rate code.

Contractor Requirements

  • Contractors are required to apply for renewable energy rebates on behalf of residential and commercial applicants.
  • Contractors must have a current NABCEP PV Installer certification and/or master electrician’s license if installing solar PV systems. For solar thermal systems, the contractor must have either the PV Installer or Solar Heating Installer NABCEP certification.

 

On-Site System Equipment/ System Requirements

  • Applicants must own the system and the installation must be located on the homeowner or business property. Systems leased from a third-party are ineligible for a rebate.
  • Renewable system rebates are for new installations using new equipment only.
  • System expansions or additional generation capacity will be eligible for a rebate up to a maximum of 3kW residential and 10kW commercial. Any on-site capacity that received a rebate in the past will count towards the maximum rebate amount of 3kW residential and 10kW commercial.
  • For PV and wind rebates, inverters must be UL listed and approved, and the system must be grid-tied. • Utility net-metering, interconnection and REC purchase agreements are required.
  • Installation must be in compliance with all local and state ordinances. Proper permits are required, for example, building permits and electrical inspection permits.


Off-site System Equipment/ System Requirements

  • Off-site system rebates are for customers purchasing panels in the SMPA Community Solar Array.
  • System expansions or additional generation capacity will be eligible for a rebate up to a maximum or 3kW residential and 10kW commercial. Any off-site capacity that received a rebate in the past will count towards the maximum rebate amount of 3kW residential and 10kW commercial.
  • Interconnection and REC purchase agreements are required.


Solar PV

  • The rebate amount will be determined by the nameplate capacity and may be adjusted to account for shading and orientation losses.
  • Systems cannot exceed 100% of consumption history or 10 kW residential/25 kW commercial, whichever is less.


Solar Thermal

  • The rebate amount may be adjusted to account for shading and orientation losses.
  • Residential solar thermal rebates are for the domestic water portion of the system only where the backup heat source is electric.
  • The collectors must be SRCC OG-100 rated and have a minimum system capacity of 20,000 BTs per day.
  • The storage tank must be at least 60 gallons and sized appropriately for the BTU output of the system.


Wind

  • The turbine used must be certified by the Small Wind Certification Council.
  • Rebates are calculated using the nameplate capacity at 11 meters/second at hub height.
  • System cannot exceed 100% of consumption history or 10 kW residential / 25 commercial, whichever is less.


Program Rules

  • Rebates are available for purchases made between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022.
  • Applications are limited to one rebate per product category per utility account per year.
  • Rebate amount will not be more than 50% of the cost of the system.
  • Applications must be complete and received within 180 days of the reservation date, or before December 31, 2022, whichever comes first.
  • Rebate checks will be issued to the name on the utility account and will be issued only to complete, qualifying applications.
  • Rebates are available first-come, first-served until funds are exhausted.
  • Products purchased that are used, rebuilt, rented, leased, exchanged, won as a prize or purchased at auction or online auction are not eligible.
  • SMPA is not responsible for lost, late, damaged, illegible, misdirected or postage-due applications.
  • SMPA reserves the right to verify compliance with these terms, including but not limited to a physical site review.
  • Qualifying applications must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, requirements, ordinances, codes and statutes.
